I – Preludio
Solus III is a three-movement sonata for solo cello. As the third piece in the Solus series, it treats solitude no longer as a threshold or a pull, but as an inner speech and a fracture.
I – Preludio
The opening is like a door slowly opening. The sound is not yet clear; it oscillates between shadows, long bows and short breaths. This movement prepares what is to be said — but does not yet say it.
II – Monologo
The cello speaks to itself. A single line turns at times into a whisper, at times into a hard assertion. Silences enter between the sentences; every note turns around an unanswered question. This is solitude at its most open: there is no listener, and yet speech continues.
III – Frattura (Fracture)
In the final movement the line cracks. Rhythms are cut, timbres harden, gestures tear apart. Fracture is not an ending but an opening: what breaks leaves a new emptiness. The work closes inside that emptiness.
