Discontinuum, yaylı dörtlü için tek bölümlük bir eserdir. A–B–A formunda kurulur; sürekliliğin değil, kesintinin estetiğini taşır.
A bölmesi karanlık ve tehditkâr bir alan açar. Çeyrek tonlar, glissandolar ve aleatorik dokunuşlar bu hissi güçlendirir: sesler kayar, sınırlar bulanıklaşır, beklenti bozulur. Tema önce patlayıcı bir enerjiyle ortaya çıkar; ardından yavaş yavaş söner, dağılır, neredeyse kaybolur.
B bölmesi rahatsız edici bir valstir. Dans formunun tanıdık iskeleti bozulmuş, aksak ve tedirgin bir hâle gelmiştir. Güzellik ile huzursuzluk aynı anda duyulur.
Dönüşte A yeniden belirir — ama artık aynı değildir. İlk patlama geride kalmış, geriye onun gölgesi ve kesintiye uğramış bir süreklilik kalmıştır. Eser, kopukluğun içinde kapanır.
Discontinuum is a single-movement work for string quartet. Built in A–B–A form, it carries the aesthetic not of continuity, but of interruption.
Section A opens a dark and threatening space. Quarter tones, glissandi and aleatoric touches intensify this feeling: sounds slide, boundaries blur, expectation is unsettled. The theme first appears with explosive energy; then it slowly fades, disperses, almost disappears.
Section B is an unsettling waltz. The familiar skeleton of the dance form has been warped into something uneven and uneasy. Beauty and discomfort are heard at once.
On the return, A reappears — but it is no longer the same. The first explosion is behind; what remains is its shadow and a continuity that has been interrupted. The work closes inside discontinuity.
