Allı Turnam reworks a well-known Anatolian folk song for solo soprano, solo alto and women’s choir. The image of the crane with a broken wing — unable to fly, left behind, calling toward home — becomes both an individual and a collective lament in this setting.
The solo voices carry the line of the song; the choir enters as echo, multiplication and shared breath. The traditional melody remains recognisable, yet the texture and harmonic language open toward a contemporary reading. The work invites the listener to hear the mourning of a folk song again in a modern choral idiom.
Allı turnam, ne gezersin havada Allı turnam, ne gezersin havada Kanadım kırıldı, kaldım burada Gülüm gülüm, kırıldı kolum Tutmuyor elim, turnalar hey Allı turnam, bizim ele varırsan Allı turnam, bizim ele varırsan Şeker söyle, kaymak söyle, bal söyle Gülüm gülüm, kırıldı kolum Tutmuyor elim, turnalar hey
My crimson crane, why do you wander in the sky My crimson crane, why do you wander in the sky My wing is broken, I am left here My rose, my rose, my arm is broken My hand will not hold, o cranes My crimson crane, if you reach our land My crimson crane, if you reach our land Speak of sugar, speak of cream, speak of honey My rose, my rose, my arm is broken My hand will not hold, o cranes
